What this test can tell you
The page draws a solid color for you to inspect visually. Compare more than one background and distinguish a mark fixed to the display from something that moves with page content.
It does not automatically detect defects, measure color accuracy or repair a panel. Browser fullscreen, color settings, brightness and room reflections affect what you see.
How to use it
- Press “Open fullscreen” or the F key.
- Keep the page open while inspecting it. The browser may still dim or lock the screen depending on support and power settings.
- Use the timer to close it automatically.
- Press Esc, click or tap to exit.
Uses for a black screen
A black screen hides what is on your display during a break, darkens a second monitor while you watch a movie, and saves energy on OLED and AMOLED displays, where black pixels are switched off.
Testing your display
A black background can make bright dots or uneven light easier to notice. Compare viewing angles, room reflections and brightness before judging the result. LCD backlight glow and the appearance of black on other display types need different interpretation.

I see light at the edges
Some backlight bleed or IPS glow is normal on LCD monitors, especially at high brightness. Lower the brightness and check again from straight on.
My whole PC shows a black screen, not just this page
That is a system problem rather than this tool. Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver on Windows, or restart your device.
The mouse pointer stays visible
Move it to a corner. In fullscreen the pointer hides after a few seconds of no movement.
Frequently asked questions
Does a black screen save battery?
On OLED and AMOLED screens, yes — black pixels are turned off. On LCD screens the backlight stays on, so the saving is small.
Can I use it to turn off my second monitor?
It makes the monitor dark without changing your display settings. To save the most power, turn the monitor off.
What is the color code?
Pure black: #000000 or RGB(0, 0, 0).
