What this test can tell you

The controls request a frequency and waveform from the browser’s audio generator. Compare what your selected output can reproduce at a low, comfortable level.

The page does not measure actual acoustic frequency response or sound pressure. A missing tone can reflect hardware, settings or hearing; do not increase volume to chase it.

How to use it

  1. Set the frequency with the slider or type an exact value.
  2. Choose a waveform and volume.
  3. Press Play; adjust while it plays.

Waveforms

Sine is a pure tone. Square and sawtooth contain many harmonics and sound buzzy, which helps reveal rattles. Triangle sits in between.

I cannot hear very low or high tones

The output device and audio path may not reproduce the requested range. A missing tone does not identify whether the limit is hardware, settings or hearing. Keep volume low; headphones also have limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is 440 Hz?

The standard tuning note A4.

Can a tone damage my hearing?

Loud tones can. Keep the volume low, especially with headphones.
