PS4 controller test

Connect a DualShock 4 to this device, then press a controller button. Check the reported buttons, L2/R2 trigger values and stick positions live. This PS4 layout uses Share and Options; it does not test the controller through a PS4 console.

Connect your controller and press any button

Runs locally in your browser. Optional recordings and photos stay on your device; nothing is uploaded.

What this test can tell you

The page displays browser-reported buttons and axes. With a standard mapping, release the sticks and compare their resting distance from center; the warning threshold is 0.10.

Held sticks also exceed that threshold. It is not a manufacturer pass/fail limit. Non-standard mappings use raw button numbers and have no stick-drift verdict; vibration depends on browser and device support.

How to use it

  1. For a wired check, connect the DualShock 4 with a compatible micro-USB data cable. Charging alone does not confirm a data connection.
  2. To pair with a supported Bluetooth device, turn the controller off and unplug USB. Hold Share and PS until the light bar flashes, then choose the controller in the device’s Bluetooth settings.
  3. Return to this page and press a button. If more than one controller is connected, select the intended device.
  4. Press the face buttons, D-pad, Share, Options, L1/R1 and L3/R3. Slowly squeeze L2/R2 and observe the reported values.
  5. Move each stick, release it fully and watch its resting position. Try vibration only if your browser and connection expose the feature.

What this DualShock 4 test can check

With a standard browser mapping, the button display uses the PS4 names, including Share instead of the PS5 Create button. It shows the values delivered by the browser: button presses, analog trigger travel and paired stick axes. When a device reports a non-standard mapping, controls use raw button numbers instead of potentially incorrect names, and the stick-drift verdict is hidden.

How to check PS4 stick drift

Leave the controller still and keep your hands off the sticks. The warning compares each stick’s distance from the reported center, sqrt(x*x + y*y), with 0.10. Repeat after releasing from different directions. A warning while holding a stick is expected. This threshold belongs to this tool; it is not Sony’s warranty limit, and a game’s dead zone can hide an offset.

Touchpad click, vibration and features outside this test

A touchpad click can appear as a button if the browser exposes it. Finger position on the touch surface, motion sensors, light-bar control, battery health, charging behavior, headphone output and speaker output are not assessed by this page. Vibration support varies with the browser, operating system and connection. Missing rumble alone does not prove a motor fault.

PS4 controller connected, but not detected here?

Press a button after opening this page. For USB, try another data-capable cable and port. If the operating system recognizes the controller but the browser does not, close software that remaps or takes control of gamepads, then reconnect and reload. Compare with another supported browser or application before treating a missing input as a hardware defect.

Not working? Try these fixes

The controller charges, but no buttons appear

Charging confirms power, not data. Try a different micro-USB cable that supports data, connect directly to the device and press a controller button again.

The page shows Xbox button names

A remapping application may expose a virtual Xbox controller. The tester follows the device identity and mapping that the browser reports. Select the physical controller if it is listed, or temporarily close the remapping software and reconnect.

I only see B0, B1 and other numbers

The browser reports a non-standard mapping, so PS4 names cannot be assigned reliably by index. The raw button values remain usable for checking which input responds. Try another connection or browser for a standard mapping.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need DS4Windows to test a PS4 controller?

This page does not require DS4Windows. It reads the controllers exposed through your browser’s Gamepad API. Device support still depends on your operating system, browser and connection.

Can this PS4 controller test fix stick drift?

No. It displays the inputs reported to the browser. It does not repair switches, recalibrate controller firmware or certify that the hardware is fault-free.

Can I test a DualShock 4 on a phone?

Only if the phone’s operating system and browser expose the connected controller to web pages. Pair it in system settings first, then press a button here. Support for a controller in an app does not guarantee every browser feature is available.

How do I reconnect the controller to my PS4 afterwards?

Connect it to the console with a compatible USB cable and press the PS button. Check Sony’s connection instructions below if it does not pair.
