What this test can tell you
Button and wheel counters show events received in the test area. Click intervals help compare repeated clicks; the pointer rate estimates browser-delivered movement updates over a rolling window.
The page cannot tell whether a second click was intentional. The 80 ms warning is a screening threshold, not a fault diagnosis. Pointer update rate can differ from the mouse’s configured USB polling rate.
How to use it
- Click every button inside the box: left, right, middle (wheel) and the side buttons.
- Scroll up and down to test the wheel in both directions.
- Make deliberate single clicks with a pause between them, then inspect the click interval and any warning.
- Move the mouse continuously inside the area to compare the browser pointer update-rate estimate.
Double-click problems
The warning flags two button presses less than 80 ms apart. That is a threshold for further checking, not proof of a worn switch: the page cannot know how many clicks you intended. Repeat slow single clicks and compare another application.
Polling rate
The estimate counts browser-delivered pointer updates, using raw updates where available and coalesced events where exposed. It shows the best observed count in a rolling one-second window. It may differ from configured hardware polling because of browser processing, motion and system load.
Not working? Try these fixes
Side buttons do nothing
Some mice need their manufacturer software to send standard Back and Forward signals. Check the button mapping in that software.
Right click opens a menu
Inside the test box the menu is blocked; outside it, your browser shows its normal menu.
The polling rate looks too low
Move continuously inside the test area and compare repeat runs with the same browser and device. Check configured polling in the mouse software. A browser estimate alone cannot establish that the USB reporting rate is wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with a touchpad?
Yes, clicks and two-finger scrolling are detected. Polling rate applies to mice only.
Does a short interval prove my mouse is double-clicking?
No. Make deliberate slow single clicks and see whether extra events recur. Compare another app, connection or device before concluding the switch is faulty.
